LARGE Antique MAPPIN & WEBB PARIS Boulle Clock CLEANED & SERVICED: Samuel Marti This is a wonderful antique 8 Day French Samuel Marti inlaid mahogany bracket clock which is ofis of lovely petite proportions.The top has a lovely domed top with elaborate inlay work to the centre and pretty brass finials to the four corners.The silvered dial is set out withRoman numerals and the chapter ring is surrounded with lovely engravings.It is finished with a super pair of shaped period fingers.The dial is flanked by canted corners which has been finished with lovely rope inlay and the door is also finished with lovely rope inlay. Below the door also has a beautifulinlaid panel. To the sides are pretty brass fretted panels. The rear door also has a lovely brass fretted panel.The case is sitting on four nicely shaped brass bracket feet. The movement is stamped 'Samuel Marti MEDAILLE D'OR PARIS 1900'. Samuel Marti was one of the prolific French clockmakers of the 1800s and a renowned clockmaker in Paris in the second half of the 1800s, Samuel Martie established his business in 1841 in Montbéliard, in Doubs, a department in northeast France that was the birthplace of many of the most prestigious clockmakers and he was known to be working circa 1860 atLe Pays de Montbeliardin Paris.Marti exhibited his clocks regularly at expositions in Paris, where he won a Mention of Honour in 1839, a Bronze Medal in 1860, a Silver Medal in 1889, and several Gold Medals (1841, 1851, 1852, 1900). The clock is happily ticking away and keeping good time and the movement is lovely and clean as can be seen from the photographs having recently been cleaned and serviced. The movement is accessed via a door to the rear. The clock comes complete with it's winding key and the door key which allows both the front and rear doors to be locked and unlocked. DIMENSIONS The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are: -9 1/4 inches / 23.5 cm wide - 6 1/4 inches / 16 cm deep -12 3/4 inches / 32.5 cm high AGE: The clock dates to circa 1890. CONDITION: The case is in superb condition as can be seen from the photographs.
