Provenance:

This war club bears an IMW Collection label, indicating its inclusion in The Ian West Collection. It was originally purchased from an antique shop in Oxted, Surrey, UK, in 1938.

Ian Morris West (1924-2015) was a dedicated collector of Native American Indian objects. He was known for his associations with prominent figures in the field, including Edward H. Blackmore (1898-1983), a leading authority on Native American Indians in the UK, and Dr. Colin Taylor (1937–2004), a respected ethnologist. West maintained a personal museum at his home, ‘The Forge’ in Sussex, and authored the book ‘Portraits of Native Americans’, published by Salamander Books in 1997.
